The examiner is still assessing you
The same driving has to be shown whether your instructor is present or not. Observation, speed, position, decisions and how you respond to traffic do not become a group project because somebody familiar is sitting behind you.
So choose based on what helps you drive, not on the idea that your instructor can influence the scoring.
The useful part comes after the drive
If your instructor is allowed to ride along, they hear the route, the situations and the examiner’s feedback. That can be valuable afterwards, especially if you tend to leave the result conversation remembering one sentence and a vague feeling of doom.
Decide before exam morning
Ask your school what is possible for your exam and whether there are practical exceptions. Then choose the setup that creates the least distraction for you.
Use their observations after the drive
Can your instructor explain a mistake while you are driving the exam?
No. The point of the practical exam is to show that you can drive independently. If your instructor is permitted to sit in the car, they are not there to coach your observation, choose gaps or tell you when to move. Arrange the practical details in advance and do not build your exam plan around getting help from the back seat.
For some candidates the familiar presence is reassuring. For others it becomes another person whose reaction they keep trying to read. Decide which is true in ordinary lessons: do you drive independently when your instructor stays quiet, or do you repeatedly look for confirmation? That is more useful evidence than assuming one arrangement is best for everybody.
When your instructor may not be allowed in the car
According to CBR’s candidate FAQ, you may ask for your instructor to accompany a school-booked exam. A second CBR employee may need the seat instead. In that case, CBR says your instructor can attend the opening and result conversations. Decide your preference with the school before test day.
An observer cannot prompt or coach. If you need translation, arrange the separate CBR interpreter role at booking; a bilingual observer is not automatically registered as an interpreter.
How to decide whether you want them there
Try one mock exam with your instructor silent in the back. Did it help you focus or make you monitor their reactions? Tell your school your preference early, but prepare to complete the drive without them as well. The assessment itself is unchanged.
