Visual explanation · Lane change

The gap closes before you steer

Question recap: A car starts closing your planned gap before you change lanes.

Correct answer

Hold your lane and check the gap before moving.

Why this is correct

The useful gap is the one available at the lateral movement. A vehicle approaching faster can reach the space sooner than your first look suggested.

Hold a stable course while checking. If the move no longer fits, let the vehicle pass and look for another opportunity.
